Reel Seat foot size

I was speaking to one of the local tackle shops this AM and it appears the new Penn 113H2 reels have a wider reel foot and will not fit most reel seats. I would advise if a customer plans on using this reel to check and make sure the reel seat you plan to use will fir it

Gross miscalculation on Penns part!! Imagine the returns they will be facing......Ouch!! I heard recently about a similar thing happening with Echo fly rod seats.

I get to learn something here. Not being around salt water stuff, I never get to see them. The site I looked at that sells these reels suggests they be paired with a salt slammer rod, I am assuming that since this rod matches up with the reel there is a supply of reel seats that would fit it, and i am assuming that someone would carry these seats for custom builders. I know when I build a rod, one of my questions is, what reel are you going to use with this? I am assuming most rod builders ask this. I don't see a problem here for custom builders and may actually be a boon if there are very few off the rack rods. I am assuming also that anyone purchasing one of these would be savvy to it's quirks, I wouldn't guess too many returns on the reel. Again I know nothing of the salt water stuff so I could be wrong.

Hello Everyone.

Terry, almost all my rods are salt and most small reels (most freshies might think 113H is big but you should try a 9/0 or 12/0) use a standard foot size but for the bigger reels there are bigger foot sized seats (usualy aluminum) where the foot slot is wider and a little taller to fit the bigger reels.

Not all aluminum have the wide feet just like only a few of the graphite have the wide foot.
