Stupid Question

I'm a newbie and was wondering can rubbing alcohol be used to clean off excess pro bond from rod before it dries? Or should I use de-natured alcohol? Thanks

If the epoxy is still fresh, yes, rubbing alcohol will work fairly well and is reasonably safe for long term use. By all means give it a try.

Steve,
Never Never Never put youself down.
There is not such thing as a STUPID question.

All that there is is a lack of knowledge about a specific topic.

Everyone is glad to help increase knowledge.

Take care

I use DNA for all my cleanup and has worked great with many bonding agents.

Steve,
There are never stupid questions, just stupid answers from those that know that they know it all!

Denatured alcohol for me.

I get the highest ratted alcohol content rubbing alcohol from the drug store. Works great.

Clean it off when it is fresh

Steve,
For all around use, go to your local big box or hardware store to the paint department.
Get the Alcohol from the paint department. Much better than getting the diluted alcohol from the drug store.
If you buy the alchol by the gallon from the paint department, it is generally much less expensive than buying it from the drug store as well.

Especially, if you have an ancohol lamp to heat up heat activated adhesive for tip attachment.
The nearly pure alcohol from the paint department burns with essentially a colorless flame. No color in the flame neans that there is no soot or black smoke deposits from using a yellow flame that is often the result of using a lesser pure alcohol.

Good luck.

Because epoxy is of organic nature, I like using a well known organic solvent, IUPAC: 2-propanone, or more commonly known as Acetone.
In chemical industry it is widely used. Also, it will not affect the blank due to graphite's non-reactivitiy and is used to clean fiberglass items. Just crack a window so the ppm don't get too high.

Be careful with the Acetone The fumes will lay close to the floor and if it is near the furnace or water heater you can kiss that rod good bye.

The rod may still be here but you may not.

Yes. All of these are volatile and should be kept away from an open flame, unless your are using a flame finish. But remember to consider the very low ppm present with the limited amount.

I beg to differ.. There is only one Stupid Question and that is the one you don't ask...

This is the perfect forum for all questions and you may get a wide variety of answers or all my concur.

Rubbing alcohol will work but I prefer to use Denatured alcohol when fresh, economics. If I am loosing the epoxy meaning it is setting then I may use Acetone which happens to me sometimes when I try to install to many hypalon grips at a time.
