I am not sure what most use but I am a wood turner and I found for cork or the carbon fiber handles I like to use my adjustable pen mandel from www.pennstateind.com I remove the shaft from the mandrel and put in a peice of 1/4 all thread. You can make it any legnth and throw it away if it gets to much glue on it.

No need to throw the all thread away. Just run a die down it to chase the threads and its good as new. Re: Handle Mandrel

Les nailed it.
For all of my rod work, whether it is a mandrel, or a cork clamp, I always keep a thread die handy that will fit the threads of the rod/s in question. It is very common for the threads to get gunked up with glue. I just chuck the rod in a drill, put the die on the rod and then run the die up and down the rod a few times to clean all of the glue from the threaded shaft , rod, or mandrel. Take care Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
