Explain! are you talking about a cork shim or the spacer between the collars? Also what kind of blank is it going on? Good Wraps Bob Re: Cork Insert

Bob I am talking abot the spacer between the collars. I will be putting it on a Batson IP 841 blank. Re: Cork Insert

The OD should be about 19mm, the shoulders 16.5mm and the barrel about 45mm in length. I normally trim mine a little shorter, about 40mm.

Thanks Tom, thats what I was looking for. I learned to build rods from reading the posts from Rodbuilding.org the last three years, I am not to good with computers, but I finally got up enough nerve to make my 1'st post, and I got my answer in less than an hour. I am going to try to turn a cork insert, it will be my 1'st one. Thanks again for the information. Re: Cork Insert

Larry,
Whenever working with skeleton seats, I simply take a normal seat of the same size, measure the OD, and length, and make the insert accordingly. If you have never tried it before, you might try enclosing the front or non threaded portion of the reel seat in Cork. The folks around here who do this, normally call it a hidden hood reel seat. But, if you have a conventional sized spinning rod, with a nominal outside handle diameter of just over 1 inch, the largest reel seat that you can do this with, is a size 16 reel seat. But, generally that works just fine, because you are using the cork outer shield as a handle for the rod.
