Thread colours and metallic thread

Hi all,

1. I'm about to order a couple of Batson Spin Bass blanks (in clear-gloss) which I believe is a charcoal grey colour.
Is standard black thread the closest match to these blanks?, or could someone reccommend another easily available thread colour which matches nicely.

2. I like to add some small trim wraps in either gold or silver on the rods above, to contrast against the black bindings.
Is a standard metallic thread (eg. Gudebrod) the best kind to use for this purpose?

Thanks

Dale - Tasmania, AUS

Dale -
In answer to both questions: Yes. Yes, standard black will blend and yes, Gudebrod silver - (if you can find it) or ProWrap from MudHole

Dale,
I agree with Ken. Normally I build on this color blanks with blank and am well pleased with the result.

A couple of times, I used NCP dark charcoal - and that was a big mistake. The color ended up being much too light and ended up clashing with the blank.

However, I have used non NCP dark charcoal with excellent results. A virtual perfect match for the blanks. But you can't go wrong with blank.

I have found that after building many many rods, that if the thread color ends up being a bit darker than the blank, it will look just fine. But if the thread color ends up being just a bit lighter than the blank, it really creates a rather unplesant color clash.

Of course, if you have a large difference in color of the blank and the finished thread - depending on the color of course- it can make the rod look wonderful.

Take care
Roger

Hello All

I think they make the wraps stand out a bit.
For a slightly subdued look I like to use Grey colors like a #1011 Gudebrod Gunmetal as an under wrap with a #441 Gudebrod Charcoal over, and if I feel the need for sparkle I add a 10 turn trim of metalic Gold or Silver.

Just use what looks good to you or ask your customer what colors they like.

Bob,

New Bern, NC.

Gudebrod medium grey without CP blends well with the titanium blanks, not sure about clear gloss. But you can closely approximate what they will look like by wrapping a test winding and put alcohol on it-while the alcohol is still wet, that color is very close to what it will look like with rod finish and no CP. Of course I am not talking about NCP or other color fast thread.
