Restoration, back to blank status!

Good Morning all !

I have started to strip my old Eagle Claw 7ft graphite Salm/Sthead Rod. I have read as many posts as I could about this subject on site. I have come across many ways on how this could be achieved, and the list was somewhat lacking in technique's. First of all chemical removal was one suggested way to remove the the finish....alcohol, acetone, and scotch-brite, razorblades. As much as I dislike the use of chemical removal.....(I used to paint cars for a living)..... its nasty and well smells bad in some cases LOL. Any ways the idea here is to remove the finish without compromising the rod blank in such a way that it would not be rebuildable.

There are many ways to remove finish from the primary surface, and as I have read some of the suggested ways.... one technique that was not mentioned was wet-sanding! For those of you who are familiar with this skill know there are many ways to regress how much you can remove from a surface, grade of paper and using liquid soap as a lubricant . As I have read some post..... sanding on graphite is a "NO NO" as it will compromise the blank. I would agree with this as well ! In fact removal of graphite from the blank would obviously devoid warranties if any applied. Now down the question about the graphite blank, we obviously know how one is made...thanks to those great YouTube videos on the subject.....Using some of those chemicals listed above are aggressive in many ways even at a light hand in the mater .... Will this compromise the integrity of a graphite blank ?

Thanks for taking the time to read guys and gals any views are welcome !

Happy Wraps!

Scrape it with a razor blade or actual scraper, or use a citrus based stripper. Either of those are suitable and won't harm your blank.
