I found this during a re-wrap on a clients rod. It had a BYAG 30 butt guide that wouldn't fit in his locker. I also removed the next guide up and found this joint. It doesn't really show, but there is actually a ridge that kept the guide from sitting flat. This is on a Gander Mtn Titanium. It's a nice rod, with nice workmanship and good wraps with trim wraps, and split grips with metal winding checks. It sure seems like a 2-piece rod that they joined under a guide. Is this a common practice? _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. That's sort of the whole point." - Thomas McGuane Re: Joint in 1-piece rod

Yes. On many rods the handles are built on a section of tubing and then the blank or rod is joined to that.
