i am finishing up a rod that painted blue.
My question is..
Can I auto clear coat on the epoxy that around the guides?
I am thinkin of putting a clear coat over the rod.tapin up the guides and just wondering if i need to tape up
the wraps.
I know i shoulda done it first but I did not have the resources at the time the build was started.
Thanks,mikeb

I would not put a coat on the epoxy.

Rattle can or spray gun? Rattle can will work but might not last. Spray gun with ureathane auto paint with proper prep is outstanding and tough. It also is flexiable enough or you can add flex agent. I would tape up the wraps just to keep it clean. I might even put a thin coat of epoxy on after I painted the rod just to get rid of any masking line.

I have epoxied over my auto clear coats but not vice versa. If you put a super fine scuff on the epoxy it might be OK, but I think your best bet would be to tape it off, and perhaps even put a super thin epoxy coat back on any wraps, labels... were ever you have a seam.

Try one guide with the clear. if it goes bad you only have to re-wrap one. If it is good you can mast the guides and cover it all

When I painted cars I would put color on in lacquer, then poly urethane over Always came out really nice.

There are also water based clears because of environmental issues.
