Do any builders have hands on for building and or using the Batson RX8 - walleye series, compared to the St. Croix SC5 Legend.
In particular, comparing the 7'6"ML blank of each series. Thanks for any comparisions. In comparing the specs, the numbers are very close. But would like to have user experience, if possible Roger Re: Compare / contrast RX8 to Legend

It might not help, but I can give you the CCS on the 4S63MXF and an XSW62MX - both 6' ish vertical jig blanks. _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. That's sort of the whole point." - Thomas McGuane Re: Compare / contrast RX8 to Legend

I was told that the rx8+ blanks were the same as the legend.

The RX8+ blanks are an OEM product built in the US to Batson's specifications. St Croix Legend (SC5/6) blanks are produced by St Croix for their explicit use/sale. IF I am correct, the original post actually pertained to the new RX8 blanks which are produced overseas for Batson. They do have an attractive finish for sure and offer a good value. While I haven't built any of the newest Batson products, I can definitely state that the new SC5/6 blanks are absolutely wonderful pieces of engineering. They are SUPER strong and VERY light. The design provides a very high strength to weight ratio. They aren't inexpensive, but IMO they are priced fairly for cutting-edge technology with a strong pedigree. Jim,
I agree with your statement. I have built many rods on various St. Croix blanks and have nothing but good things to say about them. I have handled a few of the RX8 built up rods when they first came out, but have not had the chance to see or handle the 7'6" ML RX8 blank. That is why I was asking for the hands on comparison, who had handled both of the blanks as well as built up rods. The dimensions of both blanks are quite similar and the weights of both blanks are quite similar. That is why, I fully expect that the actual action of the blanks to be similar as well as the nice crisp feel that I have come to expect from the Legend blanks. The key thing in the equation, is the speed of the tip - one compared to the other. Roger Re: Compare / contrast RX8 to Legend

Roger -
According to the marketing information on the RX8 Walleye series, it is a blend of RX8 and RX7 material ... 10-20% lighter than the comparable RX7 model. Odds are it is a good product, otherwise Batson wouldn't have approved the prototype, produced the run and released the blank. It isn't an expensive blank, give it a try. Personally, I doubt that the blank is completely comparable to the St Croix, SC5 and SC6 carbon with ART and IPC incorporated ... that would be a tough magic act. But it might be close enough to appease and it is less money. Jim - Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
