Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Friend of mind has one and asked me if I knew what it was. I found this picture of one on the net that looks likes it. [www.antiquemystique.com]
Thanks, Chuck Re: Double eyed pole???

Bamboo rods - heavy boat rods were made with guides on both sides. The idea was that because bamboo is a grass and relatively soft it would take a "set" (bend/bow) and the angler could reverse the tip section to compensate. The tip top will be a "saddle" hoop/ring centered Was this real or was it a sales pitch - I don't know Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/21/2010 09:04AM by Ken Preston. Re: Double eyed pole???

Nearly all wooden rods, particularly boat rods, were made this way for decades. Ken is on the money - you turned the rod over each subsequent trip in order to keep a set from forming in the rod. The tiptop was usually a tulip type that would accept line from either side of the rod. A few tiptops were mounted on an internal shaft. You loosened a set screw in the end, and spun the top to coincide with the side of the rod you were fishing that day.
