My wife, who is a true perfectionist, lays down one thread at a time and only in one direction (towards the tip of the rod). To keep the threads close together she turns the rod in opposite directions - clockwise on the left side of the wrap and counter clockwise on the right side of the blank. She tightens the wrap at the crossing points every three or four threads. It will take her 4-5 hours to lay down a closed wrap 9 inches long. Still the last cross-over (near the tip) usually ends up as a "sacrificial" point of the wrap. That's why she does closed wraps and I do not. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
