Flex Coat question

All,

I am building two fly rods for an upcoming Ducks Unlimited Banquet, an 8wt and a 4wt. The 8wt turned out good, and so did the 4 wt, but the flex coat didn't turn out very smooth just above the handle covering the labels I put on the blank. It was my fault. It says you can put another coat on if you wish, but wanted to post here to see if anyone has had experience doing this and what they thought. My hopes are that a second coat will smooth out the finish.

Thanks in advance,
Brad

The second coat should smooth it out nicely. Some say that if the finish has cured for 24 hrs or more that it should be lightly sandedI don't do this and have never had a problem but just to be safe I suggest you sand it.

You do not need to sand anything at just 24 hours.

I put the coat on yesterday and will do the second today...I'm not planning on sanding it. Thanks for the information!

If the next coat it is uneven. You might try waiting 48 hr. Then with a razor blade held at 90% lightly scrap the high points. Then lightly scrap the entire finish to even it out. Then apply a new coat using Tom's method. Keep looking at the bottom side of the finish and remove all globs that form on the bottom
