Hi Guys,
What's the best thing to remove chinagraph markings from a blank? Cheers, Phil. Re: Removing chinagraph pencil

OK guys,
found the answer. Use IPA, (I think you call it rubbing alcohol). Got the tip from one of the UK's top builders. Cheers, Phil. Re: Removing chinagraph pencil

i got tired of dealing with the removal/contamination challenges of china markers. I switched to a fine point Sharpie, which can be removed with alcohol. However, I usually mark my guide placement at the foot of the guide, so that the wraps will hide the mark, and I just leave it there, unless I'm not using CP. The mark will bleed through, if using finish with no CP. Sometimes I'll make the mark on the blank 90 degrees away from bottom dead center of the guide ring. Very easy to remove after the rod is completely done. George Forster Fort Collins, CO Re: Removing chinagraph pencil

I don't put any marks on my blanks. I figure from the tip measure and mark with rubber bands. And as I place the guides on I measure again and move . Then Of Course when Static Testing move some more for final placement.. Bill - willierods.com Re: Removing chinagraph pencil

I also do static testing for placement, but I like to have a mark, just in case I need to re-do a wrap. George Forster Fort Collins, CO Re: Removing chinagraph pencil

I never wrap a guide until I am sure of where they will be placed
Redo a wrap Do you wrap them and then Static test ?? I figure where and what size the butt guide will be then depending on if a light or heavy blank where the first guide from the tip will go. Then just give a quick space of the rest. Static test add- remove as necessary. Test cast Check - recheck. When i am satisfied measure and wright the spacing on paper. - The mind does go at times . Might be the Adult Beverage LOL Then start to wrap Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/30/2010 03:46PM by bill boettcher. Re: Removing chinagraph pencil

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I only re-wrap when I nick the wrap while trimming a tag or the wrap is too loose or there are crossed threads or later on if a guide needs repair. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
