went out today to gander mountain store and stop over for shopping for hunting stufgs anyways stop at fishing deptartment and take a good look at spinning rodd and i have notice a gloomis GL2 medium action and i check on guides and they has 25 or 20 guide on first then 12 then 8 then 6 all way then tip with 5 size then take a look at GLX and there has 30 then 15 then 10
and move to other lane and take a look at gander mtn tournament rod and there is some 30 and 25 guide on rods then last stop take look at st. croix and there is start by 20 and 16 on ultra light and some 25 to 30 on other plus stop take look at casting rods in avid some 16 12 10 and on musky rods as big as 20
now i can see why rod builder want improve better rods in future than factory..
after that i move on and stop and talk to a gander mtn worker who is guide for musky fishing and told me musky fishing are HOT as usually and say he has a guy who has custom musky rod with mirco guide on and say its suck on big blank but say plan switch to regular guides and he show me his mirco guide on it and i count and it was 13 of mirco guide plus tip on his 8 1/2 ft musky rod
why do they prefer a many many mirco guides on than regular guides ???

Josh,
When a rod is built with a set of components, an appropriate number of components need to be used to satisfy the needs of the client and the rod blank for a particular style rod.

If you build a conventional casting rod with the guides placed on the top side of the rod, there are typically enough guides placed on the rod to keep the line from touching the blank.
If you use high frame guides, you can use fewer guides and keep the line off the rod or from going past the rod if the rod is deeply flexed.
But, if you use low frame guides as is the case with micro guides, then more guides are needed to accomplish the same task.

Simply put, select the components you want to use for a particular rod build that will satisfy the needs of the client, the rod blank and the builder. Then, use the correct quantity of components to accomplish the design of the rod builder.

Take care
Roger

Roger your quote from above:

"Then, use the correct quantity of components to accomplish the design of the rod builder".

Which rodbuilder are you referring to?

This subject has been dealt with in much greater depth on this forum.
