I met James Carnes who is 'Osprey Custom Fishing Rods' at the Red Cross in Charlotte. And last month I was talking to him about building a party boat rod and a pier rod for use on the NC coast. There were a few of these Gator Rods he was recommending, but I can't remember what they were. To my knowledge James only builds salt water rods and does a lot of the big tuna rods and other stand up rods. So I would think he would be spot on if he was recommending using them. If you pinged him at James@ospreyCustomFishingRods dot com I suspect he would respond and give you a good recommendation if you feed him the info on how you would be fishing. Re: gator glass blanks

The original owner of Gator Glass was Gus Rokus. Back in the early ninteies I had purchased approx 1,000 assorted blanks from Gator.
The isnt a "tougher" rod on the planet. At the time it was a dozen per model minimum. I dont remeber the dates exactly, but in the late nineties, early 2000 he sold it, and the next owner didnt supply well, then another owner, and it didnt seem to work out after that, for me at least. I have heard stories of them resurfacing, but as far as durability, action, performance etc. they are as good as anything out there. Tough?, no other blank,[except Ugly stick] comes close.
