Hi all,
I am after a 4 or 5 weight fly rod blank that is medium or medium-fast taper and light in swinging weight. I am keen to try a CTS Affinity MX blank. How does it compare with XP or Dan Craft V in terms of swinging weight and castability? Or is there any other blank that fits my criteria. Thanks Martin Re: Fly blank opinion

I haven't used all three, but I have built and used a 5-weight CTS Affinity and like it very much. I can dig up the CCS numbers if that would help you at all.

My favorite 4wt to 6wt blank is the Batson Rainshadow RX7+. Very nice action in that weight range and a very attractive blank. The ones I have built are very true to weight and do not like to be overlined. They can be underlined by 1. Definately worth a look. Re: Fly blank opinion

Ditto the Batson Rainshadow. I like the RX7 2 piece myself. Matt Smith Greensboro, NC Re: Fly blank opinion

I wouldn'r discribe the Sage XP in the terms you used, the Dan Craft fits the bill however. Re: Fly blank opinion

Just a point of clarification. I was referring to the RX7+ blank, which is made in the USA and only comes in a 4 piece blank. The chestnut brown color is beautiful. The RX7 is a nice blank also but not quite as refined. It is less expensive than the RX7+. Re: Fly blank opinion

You might consider a Winston WT for the action.
Another choice would be the Thomas and Thomas Helix or Paradigm. All three are very smooth and easy casting. Re: Fly blank opinion

Thanks all,
All your replies are very informative and give some more choices. However, could someone compare these rods (and CTS) to XP and/or DC V. I have these in different wts so I know what people are talking about. I understand there are no bad blanks but for some there are better suited blanks.
