Mike,
If you want epoxy putty, it is easy to make using micro balloons mixed with the epoxy.

In years past when I used to build airplanes, I used microbaloons all of the time with epoxy to form fairings and other parts.

Use slow drying epoxy to give you plenty of working time. Continue to add glass microbaloons until the epoxy is at the consistency that you like. If you want the material to be a different color, add dye at this stage to bring the material to the color you desire.

Then, use what ever techniques that you like to form your shapes on the rod. As the material begans to set up, you can dip your finger in alcohol and use it to smooh the finish to a final finish.

You can purchase microballoons at most good hobby shops.

Take care
Roger

Ditto

You can also find those microballoons at boating stores (West Marine, etc.)

I personally just use Rod Bond.

You can also get microballons from US Composites (who also sells the expanding foam for CF grips).

Putting your rod at an angle with the tip up , mask the seat and set it turning you could use a heavy thread finish. If you want color , tint it.
