A friend asked me to fix his bamboo rod that has a broken tip. From what I can tell, he lost about 1 1/2" off the end and I've already told him it won't fish like it used to and I'll need a 6.5 tube top. Also, about 1 1/2" -2" of the remaining tip is split so I'll have to secure that before putting on the tip. Would TiteBond III work on that or would a simple super glue type repair work better?
Thanks. Re: Repairing broken bamboo tip

If he has lost the broken tip, then you need to either make a new tip section or use the 6.5 tube. Titebond III will work. Use pins to hold the splits open, and then insert the glue. Once the glue has dried, use whit silk over the split to secure it. Coat the silk with varnish and it will all but disappear. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: Repairing broken bamboo tip

Unless you plan to make and scarf on a new piece for the end, you're left with installing a larger tiptop at the point of the break.
You'll want to use a flexible glue when gathering up any delamination. Titebond III would be a better choice between those two you list. ............... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
