What new technique? Are you talking about cork clamps? There are several different variaties on the photo page here. Look under the tools category.

Okay, the old threaded rod type clamp has always been my least favorite. Early on I replaced the threaded rods with light duty chain. This allowed me to quickly adjust the clamp length by simply unhooking and re-hooking the chain in whatever length was needed.
Another quick method is to modify a sliding bar clamp to accept your cork mandrel. Adjusting for length is just a matter of sliding the end clamp block to where ever you want it and then with a few squeezes on the main clamp, you're set.
