On page 21 of the latest RodMaker is a picture of Bill Colby's Transparent Wrap. I assume this is done with white Gossamer or some sort of silk thread? Always wanted to do one of these myself, thanks. Re: Bill Colby's "Transparent Wrap" page 21

Right. Transparent wraps are made with white silk and thinned finish (but this can and somewhat does change the properties of the finish). Threadless wraps are made without any thread. They're guide feet encapsulated in urethane.

I've had no trouble achieving the same effect with 000 white silk and low build finish (or high build for that matter). Haven't seen the need to use both urethane and epoxy as he has suggested. Thinning the finish opens the door for errors. ----------------- AD Re: Bill Colby's "Transparent Wrap" page 21

There is no article nor instructions on how to do it (those have appeared in earlier issues). It's just a reader submitted photo in the Photo Gallery.

May seem like a silly question but has anyone ever tried a wrap with florocarbon? How did the florocarbon react to epoxy? Re: Bill Colby's "Transparent Wrap" page 21

Epoxy doesn't like to stick to any type of mono or flourocarbon. And, you won't get a transparent result - the wrap will be semi-clear with a silver tint.

Do a practice wrap with fishing line and you'll see why you don't want to do it. To really get the effect, silk is the only reliable way. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
