Jet 1014 Mini Lathe question

Ok...bear with me on this one:
Today on Craigs list I FINALLY found a good lathe for very cheap. I bought a Jet 1014 mini lathe, the extension bed, and the metal lathe stand all for $225. This is the only caveat: The guy I bought it from said that the last time he used it, it was losing power when he was turning with it. Starting up it would get up to speed just fine, but as soon as he added load to his project he said it felt like it was losing power, almost to the point that he could stop the project with his hand. When I went to pick up the lathe we tried to plug it in and turn it on, and the spindle wouldn't spin at all. It just made a weak humming noise when the switch was turned to the on position. Now: I have done a little research and found that this is a common issue with Jet lathes that is due to a broken/bad capacitor. Can anyone on this forum vouch for that?....OR.....do you think I'm going to have to shell out another $150 for a new Jet motor? Any input would help. Thanks! i have had several jet lathes. i bought a new one and the power switch was bad. i had great success with jet customer service. they sent me a brand new switch. i would give them a call and speak to them before doing anything. Re: Jet 1014 Mini Lathe question

The power switch is good. Started it up this morning and it got up to speed, then came to a slow hault and made a clicking noise. Anyone ever had this happen before? Now it won't start at all.

It sounds like a motor issue to me. Call Jet on Monday and they can help to determine the failure. Re: Jet 1014 Mini Lathe question
