How to stop red from turning to pink???

Hello All,

I have all of my rods wrapped with scarlet red and don't mind it because if it turns to pink I can always cut away and rewrap. The thread is NCP, too. But I'm looking to build a rod for my brother in HI and am not going to easily do that for him due to the fact that I'm here in California and him in HI. I am planning on wrapping a very large surf style rod for him and he want red and black to match his reels.

What thread style or brand or technique can I use to assure his RED will stay RED for a very long time in the Hawaiian Heat without turning to Pink?

What is I put on multiple coats of CP and if so how many is too many coats?

Thanks,
Tony

Two light coats of CP shold be ample. A third will not hurt anything. I use it on all my wraps even with NCP thread.

If you are using the red as a under wrap you could tint epoxy red and coat it before wrapping the guides

I don't think there is anything out there that is really going to keep the threads from fading if the rod is out in the sun all the time.

The clearer the finish, the more thread fading will occur. This is one of those two edged swords that you just have to deal with sometimes.

Red is one of the fastest fading colors I know of. Tinting the epoxy helps, so does using flex coat, which tends to yellow more than some of the other finishes. CP doesn't help with fading. That isn't its purpose.
