hi, i want to build four rods to be used for a variety of fishing techniques in freshwater. they will be used for boat fishing and almost always used in rod holders. i plan to use them for flat lining crankbaits, sometimes used with planer boards(2 rods), flat lining with snap on weights, trolling without downriggers, various mooching type setups or similar to mooching with a max weight size of 4oz and most of the time 1-3oz. i want two in the 8 foot range and two in the 10 foot range. they will be used for a variety of fish from 3-10# walleye to 20-30# king salmon. i plan to use them with single action daiwa mooching reels so i want the guides on the bottom and want a longer front grip and long rear grip for the rod holders, similar to a mooching rod. im considering using casting type guides. id like to use as light as line as possible and as light power as i can get away with. the tip action of the rod is very important as i need to be able to see the lure working and know when its weeded up or fouled so sensitivity is a consideration. ive been looking at the rainshadow BP1024F and the BP1264F. anyone familiar with these two? id appreciate any comments on designing this type of rod and any thoughts on mooching rods. thanks alot, mark Re: Mooching "Style" rod design?

I'd definitely use single foot guides.

You picked the perfect blanks for your situation.
First the BP1024 set up as conventional Bait Casting style. I'm also a big fan of Spiral warp so let me know if that's a possibility I have a few suggestions there as well. thanks everybody for your input. much appreciated. karry, thanks for all the great info. thats a big help and i will be using that info.
tom, what about using double foot guides in the lower section and single foot towards the last 3-4' of the blank? why do you recommend single foots for this type of rod? best, mark Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/12/2010 12:04AM by Mark Vanderhoof. Re: Mooching "Style" rod design?

With that amount of length it's important to keep weight off the upper half of the rod. Single foots generally weigh less and are more than sturdy enough for a rod of that type.
You can certainly mix and match double foots on the bottom half and single foots on the top if you like. ...................... Re: Mooching "Style" rod design?

I actually used single foot guides on the tip section of the 10'6" but from all the boat abuse from fishing the salt, not always the best water conditions as you could imagine and the 1-6 ounce mooching leads plus bait dragging I found that the Double foot guides offer a bit more durability over all maybe just more peace of mind than anything :) Karry Batson Batson Enterprises Inc.
