Jerry,
while the Blend Crank Bait blanks in the MHX line are not a composite I think you will find the actions very desirable. Due to how the material is blended and the taper of the tooling they react much like a composite model without the weight. Crankbaits come in many configruations.
If you are throwing Traps the Castaway XP3 964 has proven to by the choice of many tournament fishermen. Similar in action with more back end power used for DD22 and deep divers the XP3 965 is the correct choice. If you are using the Square Bill technique or stump banging another model is preferred. If you can be more specific you may receive targeted answers. The eight foot XP3 964 trap rod can be built under 3 ounces with proper use of micro guides and stealth components.. You can't go wrong with the Castaway XP3 964, I just finished building one a month ago and been fishing it for a few weeks getting ready for a bass tournament. It works great for throwing traps, small to medium crankbaits I set the rod up using Castaway reel seat, their cork split grip and micro, like Bill said the rod ended up under 3 oz.
Call Bill or Lance it you have any questions. Re: crankbait rod
