The higher the modulus, the less material you have to use in order to obtain the same stiffness as that in a lower modulus material. But power/stiffness is not dependent on the material used. You can make a very stiff rod from IM6 and a very soft rod from IM7.

Josh,
A couple of things to read over to help you understand more about blank materials. These should keep you busy for a bit and get the gears turning. [rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuildingtutorials.com] In the second link, read Blank Characteristics by Emory Harry Joe Re: compare im6 and im7

I can only speak from experience with the PacBay IM7 fly rods. They have a little more back bone than comprable priced IM6 blanks of the same weights. For that matter they are just a touch faster at the tip IMO. I would think you would want a little softer action for a crankbait rod. The IM6 blanks should have more of a continuous bend. Thats how it is with the PacBay fly rods anyway. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 03/25/2010 07:26PM by Larry Damore. Re: compare im6 and im7

They may well be different in terms of action or power, but it won't be due to the material itself.
