Threadless Wraps???

so for my next build, i would like to do some threadless wraps with micros...

i have never done this or even seen many rods done like this. i am looking to do it for the "difference factor" and because i am hoping it will be easier.

i havent researched this technique a whole lot but am hoping someone here would be able to help me out. i know rodbuilder just had an article in one of their recent magazines about how to do this, but i am not a subscriber.

i am basically asking how one goes about doing this. from start to finish. its a lot to ask, i know, so any help would be appreciated.

(if theres a link to a tutorial i am unaware of, please let me know!)

thanks again

Even though you do not subscribe, you could alway buy just the back issue that had it.

Well, in that case your best bet is to buy the back issue that contains the full article and thus have all the pertinent information available at your fingertips.

Basically you just set the guide up and bind it down with some rubber bands while a tiny spot of epoxy dries the guide in place. Then you coat with thickened Permagloss until you have the whole foot encapsulated.

This is just a basic overview and I would agree that having the back issue is your best bet. Its a lot to cover in a message board post when the magazine article has photos and all the little tips and tricks that will keep you from making a mess of things if you try to stumble through it.

Just a question if some one did this threadless wrap can you actually wrap over this and epoxy over the threads for extra strength for a heavier rated rod?

If you were going to wrap the guide anyway there would be no need to do the threadless wrap.

There is no issue with thread wrapped guides where heavier rods are concerned. Guides aren't being ripped through the wraps.

I was not meaning for it to be thread less I was just curious if anyone wrapped over the thread less for some thing like a trolling rod, I know some people double wrap. I just thought the guide epoxied to the blank then wrapped over and epoxied again sounds like a good idea for strenth. I would like to try a trolling rod next and still learning so I'm just collecting ideas.

You don't need strength like that.

If you're going to wrap the guide anyway, there is no need for the "threadless" part. If you're doing a trolling rod, just wrap the guide and be done with it.

You can get more information on the strength of the threadless wraps in the article sidebar. You can also see a guide being twisted out of shape with pliers, but still adhered to the blank. That's the strength of the urethane.
