Josh,
You can save yourself alot of time by using the search function. You can find info on things in seconds instead of waiting for people to reply. For instance, I did a search on "trimming a blank" and here's what came up. It should be what you are looking for. I have modified a number of blanks to build rods for specific functions cutting off tips and butts with some success. However, 4 to 5 inches off a 7'6" blank is a lot. If you want a real fast 7' rod and can't find a blank that suits, I'd recommend buying a 6'6" fast action blank and extend it from the butt end 6 to 8 inches. Also a shorted blank is often a few dollars less then the longer one.

Cutting the rod from either end will make the action slower.
Cutting from the butt reduces overall power. Cutting from the tip leaves the power intact but increases the lure casting weight range. ........... Re: will anythings affect blank power or action after cut the blank ?

What if you cut a little from each end? Re: will anythings affect blank power or action after cut the blank ?

You get a little of each effect.
Roger p.s. When I am working with very soft tipped rods - necessary for building light tipped walleye rods I make a point to NEVER trim the tip. For these soft tipped rods, about 90% of the overall action of the rod is contained in the first 6 inches of the rod. By trimming as little as 1/4 inch off the tip of some of these rods can have a rather significant effect on the overall action and usability of the rod for this particular purpose. On the other hand, there have been times that I have trimmed as much as a foot off one of these rods to make the rod the length desired. Yes the power is changed, but the same sensitive tip remains. Take care Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
