They'll be expensive no matter where you find them. REC is the manufacturer so any price difference among resellers won't be much.

I guess I should rephrase, REC is the only one that makes this KIND of guide right? there aren't any "recoil" knock offs that work similar.
Sorry for the confusion.

These look similar, but, based on the price, they're probably a different material than the REC's.

^^ those are the ones I was thinking of. I just bought some for an ultra light I built. They seem pretty nice and the rod is really light.

Acid Rod has an English guide - Seymo- they are single foot wire stainless steel but the ring is raised higher then other single foot wire guides.

I don't think anyone else builds such a thing from a similar material.

David Redington, exhibitor at the Expo in the South Fork Rods booth, had a huge selection of NOS Aetna Foulproof guides. If you can get by with a hard chrome coating, you might want to take a look at them. Very light, extremely flexible and a proven design that's had many fans over the years.

I've used the ones from Jann's , they look similar , the catalog makes no mention of them having the same properties as the recoil type . They are a lower price also . I put them on a 62 " X L blank , I like them , they work well , I have yet to crush one ,not that I try ! Before these came out I used "Berkley" Guides with the same results .
