Ferrule questions from a rookie

Hello everyone i am new to Rod Building and have read a few books including Toms classic and have see the FLex coat DVD, but no one has discussed ferrules used to connect 2 piece rods and how to install them. i have built a one piece rod before and now am attempting to build my first 2 piece for the girlfriend. i dont know if it makes a difference but its a st croix salmon/steelhead spin rod. i have read some articles about fly rods, but nothing on spin/casting rods. i appreciate any help giving and will have photos soon of the first attemp a cheapo Eglass Pink Rod that had snapped after epoxing the rod seat the wrong direction. No worries, Edison didnt build the light bulb the first try.

thanks for all of the help guys and great website!

-Andrew

There is nothing to install - modern multi-piece rods have integral ferrules. On your St. Croix the tip simply slides down over the butt. Twist it into place for a snug fit.

Thank you Tom.

Those ferrules you see for sale are for making multi-piece rods out of one piece blanks, or replacing existing ferrules.

Just do a solid thread wrap on the female half of the ferrule. It doesn't need to be a long...an inch should do it. This will reinforce the ferrule and prevent it from splitting.

yeah on all the rods i have purchased they have that wrap. thought it was just decoration but reinforcement is understandable. thanks for the info on the Furrels i was really scratching my head when i saw them for sell on the mudhole website. cant wait to get started on this new rod.
