Tried it and it doesnt work. One thing that I am working on now is the transparent pigment sold by enviortex. First results have been mixed pigmenting Lumiseal urethane as a top coating. Re: Dyed Birch Bark?

Scott,
I am curious what all you have tried for dying them. I have several bark rings drying on a piece of All Thread right now. I bleached them prior, then rinsed very thoroughly. I then stacked them on a piece of all thread with a large washer on top and bottom. I then compressed them as much as I could to squeeze the water out of them. WHen they are dry I will soak them in pgiment and Denatured Alcohol. I am hoping that when they go for a swim in the dye they will suck some of the pigment into them. I devised this plan after soaking some to flatten out. WHen I was checking them for saturation, by squeezing to ensure they were soaked , the plan came to mind. Of course there were a few beers involved in the thought process as well. Thats when I do my best work, after a few beers...lol. I will keep everyone posted on my results. Kirk Re: Dyed Birch Bark?

When I first read your question about dying bark natural stain came to mind.
Now I don’t know anything, and I can prove it, but what color are you trying to get? Can’t coffee or tea stain bark? What about mixing red clay in a solvent? I know, I’m way out there. Tom Re: Dyed Birch Bark?

I am just trying to get some different colors out of it. I am a low budget kind of guy so I was staying away from commercial woodstains. I saw the Denatured Alchohol & pigment idea on a woodturning forum so I thought I would give it a shot.. I have some with Black Pigment, and Dark green pigment drying right now. I will have to dial in the mixture ratio because you can't tell the difference between the two right now. I will try glueing some up tonight and put them on the lathe in the morning to see how deep the pigment got. I have some rings that compressed that are almost ready to take bath in the dyes. It will be interesting to see if one process works better than the other. I will keep everyone posted. I am going to have a few beers tonight and see if I can conjure up a way to put them under pressure if needed and force the pigment in.. A long time friend of mine says he can always tell I was drinking when I thought of stuff because it always starts with one of two statements.........Get ready to call 911, or Do you haqve bail money on you?
I will keep everyone posted Kirk Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
