Thom,

If you are looking to get into rod building, you've come to the right place. First, I would recommend reading through the library and the glossary to familiarize yourself with terms and procedures. Then, I'd recommend getting a good book on rod building such as Tom Kirkman's book. Then, dive in. It's usually best to purchase minimal tools and inexpensive components to get started. When you've built a rod or two, then you can decide what tools you find necessary and what techniques work best for you.

You don't need anything fancy to get started. I started out using a cardboard box for a hand wrapper and I slowly added tools from there.
