Custom Rod Thread Art

I was thinking about ordering Custom Rod Thread Art by Dale Clemens but, I'm wondering how good it as far as giving detailed instructions oh how to do wraps? Does it show good picture with easy to follow instructions? For those who have the book how do you like and is it worth the 40 dollars?

No it doesn't have such instructions. The book was aimed at those who already knew how to do crosswraps and is filled mostly with patterns.

There are some notes about special wrapping steps (plus-one, minus-one spacing) which are required in order to duplicate the wraps provided within.

Yes, it's easily worth the $40. But it is not a book with details about basic crossing wrapping steps. At least not in the way I think you're interested in. Remember, once you understand the basics of cross wrapping, you no longer need step by step instructions for each wrap. All you need is the pattern sequence.

So does the book give pattern sequence for all the patterns?

IT tells you Cross out, box in, box out+1, and shows you a picture of these 3 threads crossing, then a finished pattern.

CRTA is very good and every thread head should own it! However, if I were to own only one book and I wasn't interested in weaving, I would want Billy's book.

I own both and don't regret the $$ spent at all.

Craig,

I own the Dale Clements thread art book, along with Billy's book, along with Tom K's basic rod building book. Tom's has the best visual discription and hands on instruction for doing a diamond wrap. Billy's book is a better "how-to" for many different patterns. Dale's is very informative but being new at this is harder for me to grasp. Flex Coat also has wrap patterns you can buy.

Email me off line and I can give you a more in-depth description of each book.

It is well worth investing! Today my son Leo took some ideas from Billy

Marco, did you forget to hit the translate key? Since I don't speak portugese, I will use my spanish and french and see if I can translate. Marco, correct me if I am wrong. What I think Marco is saying is that it is worth the effort to read Billy's book and that today his son, Leo, used some of Billy's ideas.

Well I found a used book for 25 dollars so I ordered it now I just hope I like it and can understand the instructions. One thing I'm not totally new to rod building and doing wraps so I should be able to figure out most wraps. I did a fish wrap last year on a rod I made and it turned out pretty good. I would just like to get some different ideas for wraps

Here is a great easy to understand book with a ton of modern patterns written in through the eyes of a thread head.

Anyone seriously interested in custom rod building should build themselves a library of information. Dale's thread art book should be in that library. You just gotta have it.
