I wan't to wrap guides on a fiberglass fly rod with white gossamer silk for the transparent appearance when finished. I can see that in the area of the Ni-Ag ferrules a minimum 1/4 inch underwrap will be required flush from the end of the ferrule for reinforcement (manufacturers reccommendation), and to make the final wrap up the ferrule smoother. When I finish the wraps (Dura Gloss LS Supreme) should I expect to see a noticeable difference in transparency in the area of the double wrap? Thanks and Merry Christmas. I believe your white well turn out almost transparent unless you use a color lock or sealer. Bob Re: Wrapping guides with white Gossamer Silk

Thanks Robert: I know what you are saying but I think I'll do some test wrapping on an obsolete blank over the Christmas Work Break. I don't think my problem will lie with the single wrap over the guides - and I wan't to show them off - spent an extra-ordinary amount of time in the prep work. I'm concerned in the area of the double wrap - but even as I write this I'm generating new ideas of possible outcomes. Re: Wrapping guides with white Gossamer Silk

- You really have to test. In my one small experience, I wrapped Gudebrod white 00 silk on a wooden dowel and coated it with Permagloss. It went pretty transparent except that where I made an overwrap it came out white. White 00 nylon, even in a single layer, was less transparent than 00 silk. That's not much experience but it leaves me cautious. Maybe different with different brands or with gossamer silk (000 or 000000?) and/or type of finish probably matters, too. Lou.
