I had a old 1440 fenwick glass blank kicking around and I decide to make a float rod out if . Did a bit of custom design on the grips seat etc but stuck to fenwicks style of wraps, color and braided wrap at the butt end. For guides I went a little over board on size due to icing up. I use Karry Batson spacing guide. I left the last three guides off until I heard from you guys on what size/style of frame constitutes a good set up for a float rod.
I was going to use the original Fenwick double footed "V" high mounted steel frame in a 12 - 10 -10 then change to # 666, #555, #444 snake guides and a wide gap tip. OK I"m tossing this out to the wolves - so fly at her - no hold backs Re: float rod guides

What type of reel are you going to use? Why use the double foots if it is a spinning rod? If you are going to use a float reel then I would go 20 16 10 then 8's or 7's to the tip. Rolly Beenen Rovic Custom Rods Re: float rod guides

Yep, same as Rolly here.
I like Batson XY series or Fugi LVSG's or if you have an unlimited budget TYSG's. :) I use #7's on out to the tip as I don't like how the #8's change the action of the blank. Regards Dave Fishing is Life the rest is just Details Re: float rod guides

I'm gonna go against my two fellow legendary float fishers....
I would use single foot guides like previsouly mentioned, but I like 20-12-8-6-6-6-6-6-6-6. I love this set up....But guide height may vary! and of course, JANNS netcraft FLEXLITES guides with the TiCh finish are second to none for ice build-up. Flexlite guides size for size, freeze up about 70% less! I Paul Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
