I was ask to make a 6'9" flipping rod. I am new so I will ask. I am unable to find a 6'9" so can I get a 7ft rod and cut the butt off 3"? Any ideas of the rod I should use? Re: 6'9" flipping rod

I'm not so sure I wouldn't just get ahold of a pretty stout 7' casting or spinning blank and use that. If it doesn't have to collapse I might just do that. Look at a Loomis MB844 or if you need a softer tip use the 843. Other companies might have similar blanks. St.Croix for sure. Probably Lamiglass as well. I don't see why it wouldn't work. i would just go with the 7 ft, Lamiglas makes a stout 7 ft I don't have the catalog in front of me and i don't remember the blank number.i use only Lamiglas and have done so for 15 years. 6 ft 9 in is a odd length well good luck which ever blank you choose regards John Bratton J and j rod builders Re: 6'9" flipping rod

Unless 6'9" is a magic number for this guy, I wouldn't worry about it. A 6'9" blank usually builds into about a 6'10" rod anyway, but if he insists, usually no harm done by shortening the blank 3 inches on the butt end. Both Loomis & Lami are good choices, also Angler's Workshop has some good blanks under their name. Re: 6'9" flipping rod

6'9" is pretty short for a flipping rod. Most of the ones I build are 7'3" to even 8'. For a short flipping rod I would rather extend a 6'6" rod 3 inches to fit the ticket. However, I would bet that what you customer wants is rather a pitching rod. Extending the rod the 3" and mounting a rather short grip (8") makes a great pitching fast action rod. Otherwise a the rod he is proposing is no diferent than a simple worm fishing rod. Re: 6'9" flipping rod

BigAl, I agree, 6'9" makes a short flippin stick. If the guy can't be convinced to go to something like at least 7' and even up to 7'6" for the idea I might do something like chopping 2" at the butt and an inch at the tip? kind of a stupid compromise, but you want to keep as much stoutness in the butt as possible. 3" wouldn't probably make that big a difference to remove at the butt. In any case it'll perform but the longer length will surely gain more distance. Rich Solyrich Custom Rods Richard's Rod & Reel Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
