I was interested in making a fly rod with the American Tackle 3UL mother of pearl fly rod seat.

can anyyone tell me what the maximum fly weight the 3ul can supprt?

Hey Grant,

I use them a lot on trout class rods, 6wt and less. They would probably be fine on a 7wt but they are definitely a mid-range reel seat. If you start moving into the reel sizes for 8 wt line and up, then I think you need something more substantial due to the reel size, not necessarily the line size. Steelhead size reels that hold multi-tip lines are larger and need a more substantial seat, my opinion.

Nice reel seat though and good value.

thank you for the information. I saw their new pearl shell abalone inlay thats self adhesive than the reel seat and though they would make a nice pair on a 7wt for down here on the beach (jupiter,fl) for small snook.
