Well,I started my 1st rod today.
My wraps look,,well not to good.. Anyway I got all the guides on and straight, rod splined correctly??? Do or can you wrap over and over the same wrap?? Like tying bucktail jigs. I was tying my last guide on,had the loop fixed for the grand finale, cut my thread pulled on my loop.Thread pulled through and pop,,,,what was that... The tip of the rod was eskew, grab it and low and behold it fell off in my hand. That was the pop i heard. Oh well I had another tip top for another blank kit and if fits. Instead of having a 5'6" rod I now have a 5' rod.. I think that the loop material was to big.I was using fishing line. Other than my not so neat warps and the broken tip I believe the rod will be fishable...Just have to epoxy the threads. SHould I put color preserver on the threads? Thanks for the help. mikeb Re: Another 1st

We like to use CP sometimes, sometimes not. For example, I like how the red thread we use turns a great maroon color with out the CP. But stays red with it. Depends on what you want the finished color to be. Sometimes we do a test on a pc of rod blank to see how the finished color will look..
