I have a friend who asked me to make him a top of the line ice rod. He's looking for something in the 28" range for gills, perch, and crappie.
he's trying out the st. croix legend series ice rods to see if he likes them or not - but looking around, i'm not finding a lot in the way of high-end ice blanks. I assume taking 30" of a fly or light spin blank is an option. So far i've only really found the st. croix solid carbon ice blanks and the thorne bros solid glass or carbon blanks. Any and all opinions or suggestions appreciated. Regards, -Justin Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 12/17/2009 01:13PM by justin keithley. Re: panfish ice blank

when I heard that St.Croix wasn't going to offer ice rod blanks to builders, I bought all of them that I could find. they are nice blanks. Steve Bro (BroCo Custom Rods) Re: panfish ice blank

The St. Croix's are some of the best I've used. I really like them.

I picked up some solid carbon ice blanks from Midwest Rod and Reel - and I think they are nicer than the St. Croixs!!!!! Especially the 28" UL - very nice - highly recomend them. Re: panfish ice blank

I have had very good luck with a blank that Dan Fryer from DLF Custom rods sells. The web site is [www.dlfcustomfishingrods.com] . He can also set you up with a very nice guide set and handle kit to go along with it. His handle kit uses an NPS-16 seat with wood fore and butt grips.
