First epoxy wrapping finish?

Just out of curiousity, what was the first epoxy produced commercially for use as a coating on rod wrapping threads? I know epoxy had been around long before but what was the first product put out specifically for use on rod wrapping threads? Year? Flex Coat?

Gene Bullard was probably the first, packing a Duro Company product he named Diamond 1-Coat in the mid 60’s. It would have been the first such product aimed at coating rod wrapping threads. By the late 1970’s Gene had sourced a new product to his specs and named it Diamond II. It might have been the very first epoxy designed specifically to be used as a thread wrap coating. If you read his interview in RodMaker a few years ago you know that the whole idea for using epoxy on thread wraps was a bit of an accident.

Roger Seiders was involved about that same time as well. He also played with some epoxies of the day and sometime in the 1970’s had a product made specifically for use on thread wraps.

I couldn’t really say who was first. Roger could tell you what year he first introduced Flex Coat. My guess is that Diamond II and Flex Coat came on the market about the same time.

Tom's post kind of reminds me of a debate I heard once about who really invented electricity. Well, nobody invented electricity, but basically who invented ways to harness it with the all mighty light bulb. Often thought to be Edison, one of the other great minds of the time is said to be the real producer of that invention, but I have a feeling only Edison or the other guy who's name presently escapes me could really tell you who was indeed the first. Either way they are both great benefactors of the craft no ifs ands or butts.
