Today was the day to get brave and do my first epoxy finish job. I'm barely 1/2 way done and get a call that the ex's burglar alarm is going off. Now I'm rushing and that is never good.
Anyhow I had some fisheyes that I didn't recognize as such at first. Thought they were air bubbles....wouldn't blow or flame out and when I tired to add a little more finish it became apparent. Still had to deal with the burgular alarm so I just wiped it off with DNA. Came back and noticed another small one. Not sure if I could wipe that one off at this point. Not sure if I even should have wiped the first one off. Color is still changed on the first thread (but fisheyes are gone) and the DNA should have evaporated by now. Sigh....deep breathe...it is only a fishing rod:) So....how best to handle a fisheye problem? Leave it alone and clean/scuff/recoat? Or remove epoxy while still wet and deal with it tomorrow? Stuff in the cup isn't set up yet and I could probably it off but it is only one small spot. Re: quick fisheye answer needed

Let it set up and dry fully, wait a day to make sure its into the curing process then wipe down well with DNA, let that dry and you should be fine. Depending on teh size of the fisheye, the second coat may not be level, but it should have no problem filling it in. After that you can carefully sand it flat if needed and apply an extremely thin final coat. Depends on the rod if you want to take that 3rd coat option as each coat will add weight. I wouldnt likely do it on an ultralight, but say anything at or above a 20-40# and the weight change won't really even be noticed. Re: quick fisheye answer needed

Thanks Sean. It seems to have worked out okay. Pointed a lamp at the one wrap with a fisheye and it is okay now. I'll see how the one I wiped with DNA does tomorrow. I was feeling rushed and a 1/4" brush makes for slow work when you have a 3.5" underwrap. It might have been fine if I didn't try to touch it up. Re: quick fisheye answer needed

When you are on a long wrap apply epoxy with the blank (from butt to tip) it goes on a lot faster and smoother then rotate blank. Rolly Beenen Rovic Custom Rods Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
