Alaska Rodbuilders

The First Gathering for Alaska Rodbuilders was just a bit short of a sucess. I got to the American Legion and had all my stuff hauled inside and started to set up. I looked at my watch and realized it was 10:00 am and nobody was there yet. I decided to relax for a minute and see if anyone was going to show. I waited till 10:30 and not a sole was there. I resorted to Plan B which was pack everything up and go have a beer or two on the bar side of the Legion. It was after everything was packed up and I was using the ATM that I saw a lost sole come in. I asked if he was there for the Rodbuilders and he was. Well instead of hauling everything back in and setting up we talked for about an hour. I showed him some of the rods I brought down for display and we talked a bit on future projects. He is new to rodbuilding, only built a few rods so I will have him over to the house sometime in the near future and get him started on decorative wraps.
November is a busy month for me, but I will be having another gathering late November or early December. I will keep everyone posted on the date.

Hi Kirk,
Sorry to hear of the lack of attendance.
Don't be discouraged, what you are trying to do is a good thing.
Sometimes in this busy world it takes a while for people to get the message and actually follow thru.
Keep talking about it and I'll bet the next one will be better.
I've been there more than once in various activities.

Best wishes,
Ron Schneider

Kirk,

Alaska is so large and the density of rod builders so low, that it's going to be tough because of the distances involved. But if you'll let me know in advance of your next meeting, I'll put the notice in RodMaker which reaches about 60 or 70 rod builders there in Alaska. At least they'll have some advance notice and can better make plans to attend.

It's too bad it wasn't a week earlier as I could have planned to attend on my way through the area returing from my vacation on the KP.

Regards
Dave
