it has Been windy here for the last few days, have been working on this rod in the evening for a hour or so. Have been covering the Wraps with paper towels between attacks. well towels kept blowing off.
Cut these pieces from a old 3/4 ID eva grip, split them and they hold it fine. No worry of Damage to Blank or Wrap [www.rodbuilding.org] Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/16/2009 11:28PM by Barry Thomas Sr. Re: Wrap protector

Clever, however, I'm not sure I would want paper towels to touch my wraps. LOTS of lint from those things. I've used Saran wrap for the same purpose before though, and it holds itself. Re: Wrap protector

I'm curious - looks like your shop is indoors. Why would you need to cover your wraps at night? ----------------- AD Re: Wrap protector

SOmeone should do a test and make a lot of paper towel lint and mix it into a batch of epoxy and see what happens. I wouldn't be surprised if it all disappeared. Re: Wrap protector

I can tell you that paper towel lint will dissapear in the epoxy. I managed to touch partially set up wrap finish wit a cleanup paper towell & was sure I had a real serious problem. Next day, I lightly buffed the area & recoated it & the towel lint was not visable. Re: Wrap protector

Steve - I didn't want to be a jerk about it, which is why I said to test. I knew it disappeared as well, and I know tha other types of dust/lint will disappear also. ou run into problems with particles like cork /wood dust and especially foam dust from sanding. That stuff does not disappear at all, and only magnifies when you put a couple of coats on the top of it (assuming it got there on teh first coat).
I use to apply a few coats of finish to my butt wraps, then sand them pefectly flat with 220 grit. I'd then wipe with a DNA soaked paper towel (which is strongly not reccomended by many on this forum), which would always leave lint behind, but it was never visible once finish was applied. I will add to teh list that epoxy dust from sanding also disappears. IMO, biggest problem with any lint isn't the visibility, it's taht it doesn't allow you to have a smooth surface unless you use 2 coats over it, and sometimes after teh first coat you have to slice off nubs due to it. sorry for rambling Re: Wrap protector

Why not use foil? Eliminates the worry of any kind of lint. Re: Wrap protector

Household paper towels give off a lot of lint, whereas the industrial/janitorial type do not.
That said, I believe the earlier suggestion of foil is a much better option than any paper product/ Re: Wrap protector

Guys,
Barry is in a hot zone and may not have availability to materials we here at home take for granted. The wind he's talking about carries SAND with it and even indoors sand will get in! Thanks for posting Barry. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Wrap protector

Barry,
If you CP your wraps becareful with the foil (and even the EVA if it's at all tight) as it can bruse the CP and create white blushing. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Wrap protector

Barry, I have the same issue here also being on the Jersey Shore and have always used foil. It is always handy as I have a roll for pouring out the epoxy on after mixing. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
