Hypalon quality...

I have three sets of front and butt hypalon black grips (6 pieces). The front are 10" and the butt are 12" long with 11/16" ID. All were bought from a few local location over time ,and ALL six are different density (hardness/firmness). I am ticked off at the fact that I can not pair one set (two pieces) together on the same rod.
This time I am ready to order two more sets (four pieces) from Mud Hole, maybe I can find and pair one set of the same quality. Is there a hardness/stiffness index that I can mention in order to get the same quality hypalon?...and I only need one set...I like the hard/stiff hypalon type, not the soft spongy one.

Since this is the first time I will get the hypalon from MH, can anybody help me with the quality (hardness/stiffness) of their product? Thanks.

The firmness of both hypalon and EVA varies based on the manufacturer. Neither Mud Hole, nor any of the other component suppliers make these products. They source them from overseas manufacturers and the hardness grade varies from shipment to shipment. Not much anyone can do about it.

Generally hypalon is not very firm. It's somewhat spongy to begin with although it tends to be tougher than most EVA product.

THis is why I started buying several pieces at a time. IT varies wildly from time to time, but usallly if you order a dozen pieces from teh same supplier, tehy will all be the same. I have a few pieces of Hypalon that are as firm as EVA, but they weigh a LOT. I have a few which are soft and mushy, which are almost as light as EVA.

The truth is once you stretch it and instal on the blank, you're not going to be able to tell a slight variance in teh material.

I am not a rod builer, just want to finish this one. Will call MH and see if they can match a set for me.
