Fuji SIC Ring Heights

Does anyone have measurements of the ring heights from the blank , either to the center or the bottom of the ring? I am only able to find the total height of each guide, which includes the frame. I am building a conventional rod for use with braid, so I want be sure the butt guide has plenty of foregrip clearance. I am looking at the LRSG, HNSG and HBSG guides in size 20. According to the specs, the total height of the LRSG and the HBSG are the same, but the frame on the LRSG looks alot thicker to me which would place the ring height lower.
Thanks for your input. Ed Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/02/2009 03:49PM by Ed Grella. Re: Fuji SIC Ring Heights

Couldn't you figure this out with some simple arithmetic, Ed?
I happened to look up the height of a guide (the HB heavy boat guide) on Fuji's Japanese website just this morning. For a size 25 guide, the height from the bottom of the guide feet to the top of the ring is 47.8 mm. The ring is (duh) 25 mm in diameter, from the outside of the ceramic ring, so if I wanted the distance from blank to center of ring, all I have to do is subtract 12.5 (half of 25) from 47.8. In this case, the result would be 35.3 mm, or about 1.39 inches. I realize that because this calculation leaves out the guide fram, your results will not be 100% exactly correct. But it will be pretty close -- certainly within a few millimeters. Might this work for you? Re: Fuji SIC Ring Heights

You edited your post after I responded, Ed, so I'll add one thing: I was looking at the HB guides, in Silicone Nitride, for a wire line trolling rod. I too am very concerned about the line clearing the hand -- having 40 lb. wire slicing through your skin as a fish heads toward Portugal doesn't sound like my idea of a good time.
But isn't looking at ring thickness cutting this (har!) too fine? I know that if I think 2 mm in ring thickness is going to be the difference between line hitting my hand and line not hitting my hand, I'm going to a bigger and/or higher-framed guide, because 2 or 3 or even 5 mm is WAY too small a margin for me to be comfortable. I think if you use my caveman math, you'll get close enough to be sure that the line height as it comes off the spool will be good. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
