Okay, I did a search on this, but didn't find any threads that addressed this issue specifically. I have a 5'9" baitcasting rod that I'm getting started on. It's for bass fishing exclusively, and it's a medium-action rod. I'm gonna be using six guides, plus a tiptop. I have one size #8 Fuji NSG guide for the first guide, and the other five guides are Fuji NSG #6 size.
Would love a recommendation for choosing a tiptop for this setup. Mudhole has a couple of different "recommended items" that are on the same pages as the above referenced guides. Just not sure as to which way to go though, and would love to have some advice from others who have done this before. This is my first rod build, and I want to learn as much as possible up front before getting started. Thanks in advance! Re: ?? about choosing TipTop...

If the 5 running guides on the rod are Juji NSG #6, it makes sense to use the Fuji matching#6 guide for the tip. ;
With a bait caster, it is a good idea to use a side braced rod as opposed to an unbraced rod to better handle the stress. Roger Re: ?? about choosing TipTop...

I think Roger means " braced Tip Top" . I agree, I would use a braced top. If you don't like the one suggested by Mudhole, you can use a FUJI BFAT Alconite. I do that a lot. It has smaller braces and insert ring. I just like the looks of it and it lets the line lay closer to the blank between the top and first guide. Probably doesn't make a dimes worth of difference but I like the looks of it. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: ?? about choosing TipTop...

Good idea about the size of the tiptop. Also, I just took a look at the actual Fuji catalog (PDF format -- on anglersresource.net), and they list the actual corresponding tiptops that go with each guide series. Mudhole lists the tiptops and guides separately, so it's not as easy to put the guides with the appropriate tiptop (while looking at Mudhole's website).
