I'm going to try painting some reel seats. I saw a post about putting permagloss on atleast the threaded area of the reelseat. I thought permagloss heated a lot when it dries and would be bad for paint. I'm using Createx automotive paints. Any idea how it will react to permagloss? I have painted seats with auto spray paint and covered them with permagloss. After spraying them outside, I then put it on a dryer. brush the permagloss on and then let it turn. Comes out well for me. Just make sure your color is dry. One good coat should work well.
I also have sanded the threads so the nut is a little loose so the paint and permagloss takes up the space and fits well. [www.rodbuilding.org] I also paint the nuts ! Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/29/2009 11:35AM by bill boettcher. Re: Permagloss on painted reel seat

Aaron: FishSticks sells a product that is said to be similar to permagloss. I have not used it yet, but you may be interested. Contact them, not on there site. Bill - willierods.com Re: Permagloss on painted reel seat

Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane Clear Gloss. Available in a spray can ... inexpensive and easy to find. Hard, clear and durable. My preference well above Permagloss for the project.
Shim the reel seat on a wooden dowel, turn on dryer and spray lightly with sweeping strokes ... 3-4 coats should do nicely. The painting is done in the same fashion. Key is prepping the reel seat by properly sanding, especially the threaded area. [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: Permagloss on painted reel seat

Hey guys I use a Automotive 2 part Urethane. Works great for me. It is hard as nails, wont chip creak or peal in done correctly. You can reapply in 10 minutes or even wait36 hours before you have to re-sand This is not the bomb can crap ether. I can brush it or spray it on. Down side you need lots of ventilation, I would also ware some kind of respirator. You do not need an expensive one ether. You can get one at Home Depot or Lows. I use one every time I use a paint bomb can. This little precaution well save your lungs Good Wraps Bob Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
