12' Walleye Trolling Rod Blank?
Posted by: Eric Anderson (---.bhfc.net)

Can anyone give me a lead on a 12' blank for walleye trolling? Rod will be used for superline crankbait trolling and leadcore. Specs that would be close would be 1/2-1 oz. lure weight, 10- 20 # line, M or ML power, moderate action.. Just have not seen anything out there at this length, other than factory rods. Thanks for the help!

Batson's Bullet Proof 12 ft salmon black should work, though it shows it's one line weight heavier. If you can live with 11 ft + Angler's Workshop has a shop blank that looks good also. I've used their blanks, though not that one, over the years and like them alot.

I agree with Spencer, I would definitely use a Steelhead blank of some brand. They have more muscle in the bottom half than a Fly blank does. Will be a lot better for trolling.

Eric,
I have built several long 10-16 foot walleye trolling rods using the Crappie Tight Line rod from Bass pro shop.
THis is a very inexpensive rod which range in lengths from 10-16 feet.

The reel seat that comes on the rod is a rather small and inexpensive seat desiged for small bait casting reels used to catch crappies in a tight line mode.

So, I normally remove the eva butt grip and butt cap and replace the reel seat with a nice size 18 or 20 trigger style reel seat.
Then, I install a new EVA butt grip and butt cap.

Good to go for not a lot of money.

The tip is nice and light for easy monitoring of the crank bait action, but the butt is plenty stout to be able to reel in the big fish.

Take care
Roger
