Looking for a blank...

I have a customer that wants a redfish rod built and it has to absolutely be green and doesn't break the bank. I'm looking for a 20-25lb 7' blank that doesn't have the matrix style carbon fiber look. I've called Mudhole and Batson but without spending $120 on a St Croix, he has no other options that I know of. If anyone has anything or knows where I can get a blank like that at a decent price, please let me know. Thanks.

The first thing that comes to mind would be to paint a blank whatever color he wants. That opens a whole world of possibilities.
Sounds like a pretty heavy blank for redfish. I have a bunch of Shikari blanks that are 7' long, deep blue in color and fabulous rods for reds and snook. If I had a client who wanted that rod in green, I would paint it.
Did he fall in love with the Loomis Greenwater series?

David,

If he's willing to step down a notch from the 20-25lb rod, the IS701M from Mudhole's Custom Builder Series is a nice rod- especially for the money. I've built a small muskie rod out of the IS701H- too bad that particular model isn't available in green.

Greetings David,

I know Reds but not intimately.

I would suggest a LAMI's GLB 84 1M which retails on internet for ~$70 (try SeaIsle) and a GLB 96 1M for ~$80.

The latter is my go-to Bonito/Albie rod on the Vineyard and both do handle most sport species on Bait or lures.

My typical guide layout is BYAG25, BYAG16, BYAG12, BLAG8x5. Spinning reelface ~55mm.

Good luck,

Bob

We are regularly catching 40"++ reds with a 51" HOSS last weekend. I caught that one on a 10" bluefish for bait on my offshore rod with 85lb braid. It was still a heck of a fight.

This isn't for slot sized fish. He also wants to be able to use it for kings/cobia from time to time. I appreciate the email Mike K. You and Bill B hit the nail on the head...those are what I am looking for. The Pac Bay Rainforest II series exactly fits the bill. I appreciate the responses and I'll hit up Angler's Workshop tomorrow.
