Don't throw out leftover epoxy!

I did a couple of searches couldn't find a topic related to suggested uses for leftover epoxy. As has been suggested in several posts that mixing epoxy in larger amounts for rod finishing will limit chances of getting the ration messed up and ending up with an epoxy mixture that does not set up completely. I have been using the 3ml + 3ml ratio and have really good luck with having the epoxy setting up as expected.

I always have a good bit of epoxy remaining in the little plastic cups I use for mixing, which seems to be a waste and leads to the temptation to mix in smaller quantities. Well I have been saving the little disks of hardened epoxy from the mixing cups and have a couple of dozen piled up. During the last grip build I used several as adornments to add a little something extra to the grip. I passed this along to my Dad, because he hates to waste the epoxy even more then I do, and he suggested that adding a pigment (tester's model paint) to the leftover epoxy would allow you to stretch the palette of colors and find more uses for the leftover epoxy.

Sand both sides of the little disks and drill the appropriate size hole for the grip. Try inserting the disks in your next grip, shape the grip as normal and when finished, apply a coat of clear epoxy over the sanded insert to bring back the shiny luster of the insert.

Good idea. I have a freezer bag full of them. Even if they stay clear it is a nice affect to a handle. saves on rings I always forget to add pigment to it

I have often used them for marlin lure heads. Sometimes after applying what I needed for the rods I then put some color in the left overs and then drill out the center and use it for a flat head for trolling lures. They grab lots of air and leave a huge bubble trail

Fine idea!!! Thanks for sharing.

I save a few in the artist's plastic paint holder and make butt caps: [www.rodbuilding.org] with the addition of a decal in between pours to protect it forever, it comes out pretty nice.

Some great ideas here. I have used mine on a few occasions as winding checks.

If you have some old cork that your not going to use cut it into chunks and add it to it.

Tom
