Guide layout problem

I'm building a 2S66MF for a buddy of mine and he's putting a 6740 Pflueger President on it. I don't have the reel on hand but he gave me the measurements of 2" for spool diameter and 3.5" for reel seat to spool centerline measuremnt. I'm using the 27X and NGC to lay out the rod.
I put the choker (BLAG 4) at 54" from the spool face and placed the bottom edge of the reel seat 3.5 inches from the edge of my workbench. My problem is this: with such a large reel on this rod, I can't get 7 guides on it. My layout is currently: BYAG 30 at 44.25", BYAG 20 at 32.125", BYAG 12 at 20.625", and choker at 10.125 from the tiptop. This only leaves me with 10.125" to place runners. One runner isn't enough and two is too many. The BYAG 30 is about 20" from the reel spool face. Is it okay for me to cheat the choker guide back toward the butt in order to properly fit 2 running guides between the choker and the tiptop? (of course I will test cast to make sure that I haven't messed things up.) Any advice? thanks in advance, jeremy Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/31/2009 03:33PM by Jeremy Wagner. One runner might be enough. Put it at five inches beyond the tip and try it. Then slide the choker back to maybe fifty inches from the spool space and put two runners in there and try that. You will have to slightly respace the transition guides on that one though. Try them both and see which you like the best. Re: Guide layout problem

You can likely get away with a 25-16-10 before runners setup. 2" is roughly equivalent to 50mm (its actually 50.8) so there is no real reason for the 30 unless you really need it for height, but I've used a 25 butt guide on a 4000 shimano sahara before with zero issues. It wont work every time, but its nice when it does. Re: Guide layout problem

Sean,
The reason I'm using the 30 is because of the height. Using a 25 places the butt guide way to far from the reel (if you set it up for NGC). I'm going to slide the choker back a bit and see how it looks. thanks, jeremy Re: Guide layout problem

Jeremy,
That blank has a pretty fast tip. I simply start with the first two or three guides at about 4 or 4 1/2 inchs apart coming toward the butt. I put the first guide up from the butt at about 20 inches. Then, I space the others in between. I always start with all of the tip guides first to insure that especially on a fast or extra fast tip, that one has enough guides at the correct spacing for the blank to load properly. Then, increase the size and spacing of the guides as I work back up from the first guide at 20 inches from the butt of the rod. Take care Roger Re: Guide layout problem

Roger,
Thanks for the advice, that's pretty much what I've done. It seems to have worked out well and it looks great on the static test. thanks again, jeremy Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
